The brand TOMMI-FLY began to emerge in the magical year 2011, when me - Tomáš Sýkora, was behind it. As is often the case, the road to success was not easy, but often winding and faced many challenges and obstacles.

First, it would be appropriate to look at our history, so that we can then fully understand the meaning of the whole story and map the path that preceded and shaped the present-day form of the TOMMI-FLY brand.

Dad was the owner of a textile factory since 1991, his company had a major influence on my entire life.

It focused on the production of men's suit fabrics and was active in several branches of production. The whole process started in the spinning mill, where woolen yarns were produced. Part of the weaving mill was also a spinning mill, where the produced yarns were processed and turned into high-quality fabrics, which were then sent all over the world.

At that time I was still too young to start my own business. And so I followed my father to the factory and watched in awe the huge noisy machines that I fell in love with. At the very beginning of the entire wool processing process was my most popular and most powerful machine - the carding device, the so-called carding machine. The most dangerous machine in the entire compound, but I couldn't resist its allure. The entire site was interwoven with a sophisticated network of technological devices and machines. As a little boy, I often built my own looms or laundry turbomats out of Lego.

This fascinating history has directly influenced my entire life. I grew up in an environment full of creativity and entrepreneurship, where I learned from an early age to appreciate the quality and precision of production. Even today, thanks to this heritage, I perceive the importance and responsibility in each of my products.

I was completely absorbed in the world of textile production and fascinated by technologies, which I really enjoyed, and this determined my further destiny. The choice of secondary school was practically unequivocal and for a long time Tommi fly predetermined. I entered the Textile Industrial School in Brno, where I delved even deeper into the secrets of the textile world.

In addition to textile production, I had another huge hobby and that was fly fishing. At the end of high school, I got the idea to combine these two passions together and that's how the TOMMI-FLY brand began.

The economic crisis and strong competition from eastern countries in the textile industry had a significant impact. Dad's company was forced to react, so only the youngest operation remained - the textile yarn dyeing plant, an operation that was essential for the development of the emerging brand.

CZECH MADE: The path to handmade production in the Czech Republic

The brand specializes in the production of first-class materials for fly fishing, which is also reflected in our "CZECH MADE" brand, i.e. made in the Czech Republic.

A key element of our products is the emphasis on quality. A significant part of the technological production procedures is "Hand made", i.e. manual work, which guarantees a high standard. All raw materials that we use for our own production come from the territory of the European Union, which strengthens the quality of our products.

Continuous development is a key element for us. We knew we wanted to be unique, which is why we are intensively devoting ourselves to innovation in the field of binding materials. Every next step of development was and is another revelation of who we are and what we can offer.

Our developer Tom's motto is simple but very powerful: “I have 10 lifetimes of ideas and I have to do them in one!” He constantly reminds us that there is room for endless creativity and passion for fly fishing in our team.

And now, in 2023, we have reached another important milestone. We acquired our own technology for dyeing and treatment of materials, which allowed us to become fully self-sufficient. Now we are ready to strengthen our position and bring you an even better and more independent fly fishing experience.

TESTING: A quality test connected to nature, a journey to find unique flies

Testing our own products is not only a key element of our brand, but also its heart and soul. Before each of our products are put on sale, the materials undergo thorough tests. Testing gives us an important insight into how our materials behave during fly tying and especially how they perform in practice during fishing expeditions.

We monitor how our products hold up in real-world conditions to ensure they meet your expectations. Your satisfaction and success in fly fishing is our top priority, and it is thanks to testing that we can offer a guarantee of the quality of our products. The importance of testing and cooperation has brought us more than one opportunity to stand alongside the Czech world champions in fly fishing.

But testing is not only important for quality. It is also a crucial step towards preserving our nature and our relationship with it. The testing process allows us to minimize material waste and use it more efficiently. In this way, we contribute to the protection of our environment and the sustainability of our activity.

FOR NATURE: For nature or our commitment to the benefit of trout

Nowadays, where the quality and functionality of tying material remains our priority, we are also aware of the diversity of anglers' attitudes to handling fish. We understand that not every fisherman practices the "catch and release" method. That's why we decided to support the Zachraňme Lipan and Pstruh Potoční association from 1 September 2018.

Help is simple, in our e-shop you will find a product called Save Grayling and Brook Trout. By purchasing this product, you will donate CZK 20, CZK 50 or CZK 100 to this association. In the past, we also offered this association a place at our stand at fairs in Prague, so that they could represent their activities to the public.

The Trout Potoční project in Jihlava is another important step in our commitment. As of 2020, we have transitioned from releasing Rainbow Trout to exclusively stocking Brown Trout. We have created a special box at our showroom in Ivančice, where you can donate any amount. The proceeds from this collection are subsequently used to purchase stock of brown trout, which are then planted in the Jihlava river.

In 2022, we were able to collect and invest the amount of CZK 38,000 for stocking with brook trout. In 2023, this amount has already increased to CZK 59,000. Together with the owner of the local organization, we participate in putting this stock into the river, including all the accompanying costs of transportation and care. Thanks to growing sponsorships and funds that are gradually increasing, we can provide more and more support. The selection of brown trout is carried out with the utmost care in order to preserve the conditions for further reproduction of these beautiful fish. We select fish from 30 to 45 cm, which are in optimal condition for further life in the natural environment. In this way, we support the growth of a new generation of wild fish that are born in a completely natural environment and have to face the challenges of wild nature.

In 2023, we introduced a new support option by purchasing a t-shirt with a new logo in the shape of a brown trout. It allows you to contribute to the support of the stock of this amazing fish.

Thanks to our long-term involvement in supporting the brown trout, we have become a proud partner of the renowned Patagonia brand, which has a strong commitment to environmental protection. This collaboration allows us to further strengthen our efforts to preserve natural beauty and fish stocks, in conjunction with one of the leading brands in the field of sustainability and protection of the planet. We are proud of this partnership and believe that together we can achieve even greater success in the fight for the protection of our nature.

In 2022, Tom joined the Fishery Guard to actively protect brown trout and their habitat. Its main goal is to inform the public about the problem of brook trout, especially about its spawning and the challenges it faces during its life. He tries to bring people closer to the importance of protecting these rare fish and explains how important it is to choose the "catch and release" method for brown trout. His passion and activity help spread awareness of this issue and contribute to the preservation of brown trout for future generations.

YOUTH SUPPORT: The future or responsibility in supporting young talents

The last important pillar of our brand is youth support. Every year we actively contribute to the development of young fly fishermen and support their fly fishing efforts. As part of this support, we sponsor many children's fly fishing competitions, where all participants receive a package with our products. However, we don't just stop at this step. We actively cooperate with children's fly fishing clubs in the Czech Republic and even extended our support abroad in 2023, when we had the honor of supporting a children's club in Slovenia.

We also pay special attention to our national junior fly fishing team. We are the official proud partner of the Czech junior fly fishing team. Our materials are the popular choice of these representatives, both in national and world championships, where they achieve significant success.
