Perception of invisible light

Color is perceived by the eye as a reflection of light of a certain wavelength. The human eye perceives color at a wavelength of 400-750 nm. The eye of many animals, including fish, perceives the reflection of light below 400 nm, the so-called ultraviolet radiation (UV). The natural source of UV radiation is the sun. UV light has a shorter wavelength and thus higher energy than light visible to us. For the perception of color under UV radiation, we can help with suitable UV lighting. We find that the perception of color is completely different, the hue changes, the color is much more radiant and irritating, some colors shine directly.

If we illuminate UV lighting on a wide range of binding materials, we find that at a wavelength below 400 nm it does not reflect, or only minimally reflects light. We perceive color dimly, vaguely and indistinctly. On the other hand, if we shine a light on a new type of thread, we get closer to the perception of the color of the fish and we will be surprised at what the color suddenly looks like and how much light it reflects.
